Branik Maribor is the champion of the Middle European League 2011/12. In the final of the Final four tournament at the Multiversum hall in Schwechat the girls from Slovenia defeated host SVS Post at 3:0 (27:25, 25:23, 25:23). Before the encounter the team of SVS Post was considered to be the favorite for the title - but once more the Austrians have to content themselves with second place.
On Monday the girls of Branik Maribor seized the title in the Middle European League Women's competition. Friday and Saturday will see the decision in the Men's competition in the Final four tournament hosted by VC Chemes Humenne. Besides the hosting team the defending champion Ach Volley Ljubljana (SLO), as well as Mladost Marina Kastela (CRO) and das Hypo Tirol Volleyballteam (AUT) will compete for the MEL title in the Eastern Slovakian town Humenne (35,000 inhabitants). All matches will be broadcast live at www.huste.tv.
SVS Post lived up to expectations and qualified for the final of this season's Middle European League. In the first match of the Final Four tournament at the Multiversum hall in Schwechat the home team defeated its opponent Slavia Bratislava at 3:0 (25:22, 25:20, 25:18) in only 72 minutes. With 16 points Radosava was the best scorer of the Austrians.
Sunday and Monday will see the decision in the fight for the title in this season's Middle European League Women 2011/12. The Final Four will take place at the Multiversum hall in Schwechat. After securing the top position in the qualification round the girls of SVS Post are the favorites in the upcoming tournament. But also the two teams from Bratislava as well as the one from Maribor will aim at winning the title. This means that the spectators can expect exciting matches at the big MEL showdown.
The girls of Austrian champion SVS Post presented themselves in their last encounter in the qualification round of this season's MEL Women against Calcit Kamnik (3:0) in Slovenia as superior as they did all season which secured them the top position in the qualification round. After 16 rounds SVS Post has scored 12 points more than the second ranked team of Maribor and 13 points more than Doprastav Bratislava (one encounter less) and 15 point more than the following team Slavia Bratislava. The girls from Lower Austria thus have every right to be proud of their achievement.
